Slot Technician

We are currently looking for a Slot Technician to join our team.

This position is responsible for installing, servicing, adjusting and repairing coin-operated slot machines, currency changers, video arcade games and currency and coin-handling equipment located in the shipboard Casino by performing the following duties and responsibilities.  The position is also responsible for maintaining and repairing signage and the computerized gym equipment.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Adjust slot machines, video games, coin-handling, card shuffling and all other machines and equipment following manufacturer's specifications, using hand and power tools
  • Fills machines with coins and tests electrical and coin-handling systems.
  • Examines defective machines to determine causes of malfunctions. 
  • Collects coins and currency from change machines and makes settlements with cashier cage to balance assets and cash retrieved from the machines.
  • Prepares written authorization for jackpot payouts and presents to Cashier and/or Casino Management based on established Casino Operations policies.
  • Conducts daily inspections of the Arcade Machines and equipment.
  • Maintains a constant presence throughout the Casino.  Walks around the Casino to assist guests and provide general information.  Extends courtesy and helpful gaming information to guests. 
  • Supervises staff to ensure speed and accuracy of cashiering services in accordance with the Celebrity Connections standards.  Under time constraints or staff shortages, assists employees or performs cashiering duties.
  • Maintains an awareness of the guests to provide security problems.  Observes players and machine operation for improper use or possible security problems.  Notifies management and/or security of suspicious behavior.
  • Participates in the programming or repair of progressive gaming and other electronic displays including Roulette displays.
  • Completes paperwork and/or reports on a per voyage, monthly and/or quarterly basis.
  • Formal training in the repair and troubleshooting of a variety of electrical, mechanical and/or electronic equipment
  • Previous slot technician work experience in live casinos preferred.
  • Proven customer service skills to interact appropriately with guests in a considerate, professional and positive manner by showing concern and listening actively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with guests, department heads and shipboard crewmembers to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
  • Ability to count paper and coin currency quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions with regard to monetary units and compute slot machine percentages.
  • Completion of high school or GED required; university degree preferred.
  • Ability to participate in life-saving emergency drills and required training
  • Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and distinctly.
  • All international applicants must have the ability to obtain relevant visas, when applicable

We are currently searching for 2nd Engineers to join our team. This position performs duties as an Engineer Watch Officer (EWO) in the Engine Control Room, overseeing the operation, maintenance and repairs of Engineering personnel during his watch. The qualifications of this Officer position will follow all international and national conventions and regulations and have a 2nd Engineer License without limitations.

Requirements:

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.

New Cruise Ships on the Horizon for 2011

When you’re looking for a cruise line job, it’s a good idea to keep up with industry happenings.

Knowing what cruise ships are on the horizon will help to focus your job search as some of these new ships will carry thousands of passengers meaning they’ll also require thousands of crew to fully staff them.

AIDA - AIDAsol

AIDA: AIDAsol

German cruise line AIDA will launch their eighth ship, the colorful AIDAsol, in April of 2011.  Featuring 1,097 passenger cabins, seven restaurants, and twelve bars, the AIDAsol will sail an itinerary across Northern Europe from its home port in Kiel, Germany.

AMAWaterways: AMAKatarina and AMALotus

Popular luxury European river cruise line, AMAWaterways, is set to launch two new ships in 2011: AMAKatarina, 212-passenger ship based out of Moscow sailing Russian Rivers; and the AMALotus, sailing the Mekong River through Vietnam and Cambodia.

Avalon Waterways: Panorama

Avalon Waterways is launching its European river cruise ship, Panorama, in May 2011.  Offering only 66 all-suite cabins, there’s also room for 47 crew members on board as the Panorama sails from its home base of Amsterdam, Holland, to Budapest, Hungary, following a 14-day itinerary.

Carnival Cruise Lines: Magic

The latest vessel in the Fun Ship series, Carnival Magic, will set sail on May 1, 2011, for its summer in the Mediterranean; Carnival Magic will reposition to the Caribbean for the winter season starting November 14.  With a total passenger capacity of 6,000 people, the ship features 1,845 cabins for guests along with an additional 746 cabins for crew.

Celebrity Cruises: Silhouette

As part of their Solstice Class series, the Silhouette is the latest addition in the Celebrity fleet.  The Silhouette will carry almost 2,900 passengers with reported crew numbers varying from 999 to 1,227.  The Silhouette will sail July 23, 2011, on its inaugural Mediterranean itinerary transitioning to the Caribbean in November.

Compagnie du Ponant: L’Austral

The French company Compagnie du Ponant is known for its luxurious mega yachts which cater to an upscale clientele.  L’Austral is the latest edition to this elite fleet; it features a 264 passenger capacity along with 139 crew members.  L’Austral will sail its first Mediterranean itinerary out of its home port of Venice, Italy, on April 27, 2011.

Costa Favolosa

Costa Cruises: Favolosa

This ever growing Italian cruise line is introducing the 15th addition to its fleet, the Costa Favolosa featuring a passenger capacity of 3,780 along with 1,068 crew members.  The Grand Inaugural Cruise sees the Costa Favolosa sailing roundtrip from its Venice home port to the Mediterranean on July 7, 2011.

Disney Cruise Line: Dream

Their first new ship in ten years, the Disney Dream offers cabins for over 4,000 passengers with an additional 1,458 crew members to keep everything running smoothly.  The Disney Dream sets sail on its maiden voyage January 26, 2011, to the Bahamas out of its home port in Port Canaveral, FL.

Oceana Cruises: Marina

The Marina is a mid-size ship featuring room for 1,250 passengers plus an additional 800 crew members.  The Marina will set sail on January 22, 2011, from Barcelona, Spain, to Miami, FL; she’ll then sail onto San Francisco, the Caribbean, and then back to Barcelona on March 28.

Seabourn Quest

Seabourn: Quest

The Seabourn Quest is a luxury 225-suite ship whose pre-inaugural cruise takes place June 9, 2011, in the Mediterranean.  After a summer in Europe, the Quest and her 330 crew members will reposition to the Caribbean on November 23.

Uniworld: River Antoinette

Known as the ‘world’s only boutique cruise line’, Uniworld is launching their newest fleet addition, the River Antoinette, on March 27, 2011.   This 164-passenger ship will be based out of Basel, Germany, as it sails itineraries along the Rhine River.

 We are currently searching for Human Resources Managers.  The emphasis of this position is on core functions such as: organizational development and effectiveness; employee relations; training and development; performance management; conflict resolution; employee promotions/transfers; berthing compliance; progressive disciplinary action; employee turnover and retention; time and attendance and; ongoing HR management/administration.  The HR Manager will provide assistance and support to all senior officers and onboard management when dealing with human resources issues.

  • Facilitate a culture of commitment to the company's values, standards, operating philosophies and overall business strategy.

  • Provide direction and guidance to the Training & Development Manager to ensure ongoing leadership development and required training is conducted under corporate compliance objectives.

 

  • Support the Staff Captain in all investigations involving crew.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited university or college in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or related field is required.

 

  • Five to ten years progressive Human Resources management experience.

 

  • Minimum three years in employee relations; investigating, negotiating and resolving grievances and conflicts, preferably in a multi-cultural diverse environment.

 

  • Possess a clear understanding of processes that will enable the administration of progressive disciplinary action through coaching and counseling to improve performance or recommend termination of employment.

 

  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently and clearly.

 

  • Ability to participate in emergency life-saving drills and required training

 

  • Ability to accommodate a 4 month on/2 month off contract

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the operation of the shipboard Shore Excursion program.
  • Must have a clear understanding of revenue and ratings goals for the department, and how to achieve them.
  • Maintains an inventory of available tours on a cruise-by-cruise basis.  Updates computer system accordingly.
  • Supervises, coaches, and evaluates the Assistant Shore Excursion Manager and other staff members
  • Prepares tour information sheet and drop-off forms. 
  • Provides and delivers tour talk to audience. 
  • Maintains tour sales budgeted figures.
  • Maintains shipboard shore excursion video.  Rewrites scripts when necessary.  Works with Video Programmers/Broadcast Manager to shoot footage as needed.
  • Manages the Shore Excursion desk including guest services regarding tour sales, refund issues, and general port and ship information.
  • Generates revenue reports and Manager's information reports including notable events that happen during the cruise.
  • Meets with Tour Operators in the ports.  Reviews past and future progress. 
  • Inspects new excursions in ports, and monitors tours on a rotating basis in order to constantly review quality control.
  • Financial responsibilities for budget, expenses and/or achievement of revenue targets including the successful identification of expense reduction through cost control.
  • Mentors, develops and provides on-the-job training to his/her staff to strengthen their current performance and prepare for future advancement.

Job requirements

  • Minimum of two years experience Managing a Shore Excursion program on a large passenger ship.
  • Knowledge of ports and tours is required.
  • Ability to hit sales targets.  Sales background is beneficial.
  • Excellent public speaking and public relations skills.
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests and crew.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures.
  • Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, Italian or German preferred.
  • Very strong communication, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior customer service, teambuilding and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong planning, coaching, organizing, staffing, controlling, and evaluating skills.
  • Intermediate computer software skills required.
  • Possess a good understanding of numbering flow "Debits/Credits", adjusting entries and corrections.
  • All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills.
